Crossing

Motion, light, sound, perspective, and dimension weave into one mind-bending performance!

The title for “Crossing” came from choreographer Abd Al Hadi Abunahleh’s reflection on his journey of searching for transcendence, his search for divine infinity, which is possibly transcending mundane infinity, the sort of infinity that we can construct and grasp, in simple everyday movements, in daily activities.

The process of making this piece can be understood as a laboratory phase. Together with Swiss interaction designer and media artist Simón Aurel Schwarz, they explore the essence of spaces, using existing materials to create new impressions for the senses.

Additionally, sound artist Shawki created a powerful and driving score that provides the perfect energetic accompaniment to Abunahleh’s choreography.

Simon Aurel Schwarz

Simón Aurel Schwarz is a photographer and media artist with background as environmental scientist.

After having obtained a degree as an environmental scientist, he completed a second course of studies at Zurich University of the Arts and has since been creating works that elevated the inspirational play with light to an art form. In many cases it only takes a projector, some other source of lighting, or a self-made lamp design: «It’s amazing how little it takes to completely transform a room», the resourceful artist explains. For him, light serves as an immaterial building material that lets him merge various elements into a sensory work of art.
